How to Get Started

Thanks for volunteering to be a Career Coach! We hope these instructions are helpful in getting you on your way. This page provides instructions on how to sign up to be a Career Coach. For more information check out our Frequently Asked Questions.
1. Sign-up Go to F4K.org and click on the Be a Career Coach box
2. Fill-out the form
(broken up into six sections)

General Information – This section must be filled out completely so we can run the criminal history background check. Futures for Kids requires a criminal history background check for the past 7 years as well as a North Carolina Sex Offender check on all Career Coaches. Applicants with minor offenses (e.g. traffic and other violations) will be accepted. Applicants with more serious offenses are evaluated according to internal guidelines. All results are confidential between the applicant and F4K.

Career Selection – This is where you will choose up to three careers that most closely match your area of expertise.

  1. Click the word "here" under Add a Career.
  2. You can search a career by key word or you can browse the main career areas (called pathways)
  3. Click on the appropriate career and it will show up in the application under Selected Careers. To add another career, click on Add a Career again.

NOTE: The box next to Employer Relevant will automatically be checked. This means that the careers you chose can be found at your current company. If you’ve had career experience in a field that doesn’t apply to your current company (for example, you were a professional ballerina, but now process Accounts Payable at ABC Banking), please uncheck this. Through F4K, students can see the many varied careers within different companies.

Name History and Address History– For criminal history background check purposes please fill this out

Login Information – Your login/screen name will identify you to F4K students, so choose a name you want students and employers to see. We recommend a name that looks something like first name and last initial (e.g. JohnD).

Terms and Conditions – Please read and check the box if you agree to the background check and Terms and Conditions. Once the box is checked, click GO

3. Wait for background check Once you hit GO, your application will be sent for a background check. The background check generally takes two to three business days. Once that is complete, you will be sent a Welcome email.
Congratulations! You are now a Career Coach! See below for instructions on getting started as a Career Coach.
