What is the NCGP?
The North Carolina Graduation Project, or NCGP, is a
graduation requirement for every North Carolina student
beginning with the class of 2010. The project is
intended to be completed over the course of the
student's high school career.

What are the requirements?
The four components of the NCGP are a research paper, a
product, a portfolio and an oral presentation to be
completed on a topic of the student's choosing.

What are the goals of the project?
·
Promotes the learning and practice of skills and
knowledge that ensure students will be able to function
successfully in higher education, the workforce and in
life.
·
Gives
students the opportunity to connect content knowledge,
acquired skills and work habits to real world situations
and issues.
·
Provides students the experience of integrating
knowledge, skills and performance and committing to
something for which they are passionate.

How can F4K help?
Through Futures for Kids, students have access to over
700 background-checked Career Coaches that can serve as
e-mentors and assist them with their Grad Project. These
conversations take place via an online discussion board
and are automatically saved to their personalized F4K
portfolio. They can also save documents, record work
experiences and share information through their
portfolio.

What is the role of the business community?
The business community's participation is essential to
achieving the goals of the NCGP. Serving as a mentor is
a great way to invest in our future workforce and help
students develop the skills they will need to succeed
outside of the classroom. F4K Career Coaches can double
as NCGP e-mentors for students across the state, so that
all students can have access to an expert in their field
regardless of factors such as geographic location. Ready

Schools will also be looking for members of the
community to volunteer as evaluators for the students'
oral presentations. For more information, contact a
school in your area directly and ask to speak with the
Graduation Project Coordinator or check with your local
chamber of commerce.
